Primary Purpose

Provides advice and assistance to faculty members at all stages of grantseeking and grant administration and partners with others at Middlbury to promote and enhance a culture of grantseeking. Oversees updating and communications related to federal certification and compliance requirements for faculty and federal grants. Assists the Academic Affairs Office with grant-related issues involving the faculty leave program.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Investigates, analyzes and identifies potential sources of support for faculty on leave or for summer research programs.

Advises faculty on grant procedures and reviews/monitors faculty applications to ensure compliance with all college and donor regulations.

Maintains documentation of compliance with all federal certifications and assurances and coordinates development of related policies and procedures.

Assists in editing, budget preparation and packaging proposals for submittal.

Oversees development of policies and procedures related to pre-award and non-accounting post award issues.

Serves as liaison with Controller’s Office for budget and compliance matters and all matters related to federal grant administration Serves as system administrator for all electronic research administration systems.

Oversees all regulatory matters (budget and compliance issues) related to grant preparation and solicitation of support from all federal agencies for all College projects.

Maintains grant information files including subscription databases. Supervises communication with faculty on all grant information through electronic messaging, newsletters, Midd Points column and special mailings.

Conducts workshops on grant sources and grant-seeking.

Maintains faculty grant files and data on faculty grants. Prepares reports for internal and external communication on faculty grant activity.

Serves as liaison with Academic Affairs group for all matters relating to faculty grants. Provides support for grantseeking requirement of faculty leave program and prepares annual reports on grant-funded leaves.

Coordinates, in conjunction with academic administration, the sponsored research matching fund.

Education & Training

Bachelor’s degree required with science/technical knowledge helpful. Master’s degree (with research experience) preferred.

Experience

3-5 years of prior experience in an academic or research setting.

Knowledge

General computer competence for generating reports and tracking information. Familiarity with sponsored program administration or grant-seeking process essential.

Other

Good writing skills essential. Demonstrated ability to disseminate information. Must handle confidential information in a discreet manner. Must be comfortable working with faculty and dealing with grantors by phone.
