Primary Purpose

Manages the information and communication resources of the Career Services Office; works collaboratively with staff on programs and events and provides career related counseling for students.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of CSO, provides career-related counseling for students, manages the information and communication resources of the Career Services Office, and works collaboratively with other CSO and college staff on programs and events. Contributes to Career Services' mission of working in partnership with the academic program to provide students with the real world experience that aids them in identifying and attaining their service, career, and lifelong learning goals. Primary responsibilities include: 

1. Career counseling

a. Provide resources and services that create an opportunity to explore the connection between academic study and future paths of study, work, and service.
b. Serve as primary counselor during Drop-In hours: assess needs of students and respond appropriately with advice and information regarding career development strategies and resources.
c. Collaborate in the development and presentation of CSO workshops.
d. Regularly see students in counseling appointments.
e. Provide resume and cover letter reviews and practice interviews for students.

2. Management of electronic and hard-copy resources

a. Manage CSO Library hard-copy inventory.
b. Maintain and regularly review the electronic resources accessed through the CSO Web site and collaborate with appropriate staff to ensure pertinence of listings.
c. Evaluate electronic and hard-copy resources for acquisition; maintain hard-copy and electronic subscriptions.
d. Communicate with CSO staff and patrons regarding additions/changes to resources.

3. Peer Career Advisor Program

a. Work cooperatively with the Associate Director of Career Services and the Assistant Director for Marketing in the implementation of the Peer Career Advisor program.
b. Assist with supervising Peer Career Advisors in developing and implementing peer-marketing strategies.
c. Help to create and coordinate events to market CSO services and resources. d. Supervise production of undergraduate newsletter.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree required, preferably from a liberal arts institution.

Experience

Two years experience in career services setting is desirable (student peer counselor role or internship qualify as experience). Significant industry experience will be considered comparable to career services experience

Teaching or presentation experience a strong plus

Knowledge

Strong computer applications and Internet ability are a must.

Knowledge of In Design or desktop publishing desirable.

Other

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
