Primary Purpose

Facilitate the mission for the Mahaney Center for the Arts (MCFA) by providing operational leadership and support. Develop and manage the operating budgets pertaining to MCFA management and related functions. Contribute as an active member of a self-directed management team.

GENERAL/SHARED WITH MCFA MANAGEMENT TEAM

  • Plans proactively and innovatively to support the artistic initiatives of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide guidance for complex issues, work management and resource management. Manages resources to advance the performing and visual arts in our community.
  • Develop and implement long and short-term MCFA strategies, policies, procedures and standards. Interpret policies, establish organizational direction, strategic goals and objectives. Assumes responsibility vis-a-vis faculty and administration to work toward these goals with integrity and professionalism.
  • Serves as MCFA liaison to selected arts areas and Commons.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff on special events, initiatives, and symposia.
  • Handles team personnel matters as needed, including peer performance evaluations, vacation scheduling, employee relations, professional development opportunities, and hiring.
  • Represents the MCFA management staff on assigned committees. Coordinates staff meetings with rotational leadership.
  • Promote organizational teamwork, participative management, customer service, and collaborative problem solving. Maintains flexibility and willingness to contribute to the resolution of problems.
  • Collaborates with MCFA staff on event compliance related to ADA and campus safety concerns.
  • Work with other members of the management team on grant development and stewardship.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately, verbally and in writing, with individuals of extremely diverse backgrounds and large groups. Occasional public presentations required. Ability to listen and consider the views of others. Facilitate group meetings.

OPERATIONS AND FINANCE

  • Develops systems for operations management, and information tracking and dissemination.
  • Maintains the facility master schedule for event, maintenance, renovation, and operational project planning. Administers, oversees, and assumes responsibility for the maintenance, operation, minor construction, renovation and repair activities at the MCFA.
  • Serves as building manager for the Mahaney Center for the Arts with direct responsibility for communicating with Facilities Management, Facilities Planning, Custodial Services, resident constituencies and off-campus users of the Center.
  • Oversees and assures appropriate, safe and effective operations within the MCFA, with direct responsibility for the implementation of developed policies of use of the Center by on and off-campus users.
  • Develops and stewards annual proposal for operational projects and space change requests for the MCFA and Wright Theatre, and representative programs.
  • Ensures MCFA event compliance with federal, state, and campus safety regulations and ADA policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the Technical Manager's schedule.
  • Serves as budget administrator for MCFA related budgets.
  • Supervises the full-time position of Events and Administrative Coordinator.
  • Serves as the signatory supervisor for the Management Team.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree

Experience

Progressively responsible professional experience, a portion of which is in a higher education environment, is required. Broad based and fully developed management experience, with a demonstrated record in directing service, operations, finance, and human resources functions. Arts and Arts Administration experience is helpful.

Knowledge

Demonstrated strong competence with computers and technology. Demonstrated strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with College environment, SCT Banner, and computerized room request reservations systems preferred.

Must be a self-starter, able to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment with frequently changing priorities, handle multiple tasks concurrently, attend to details, and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills. Supervisory skills managing administrative staff, other staff, and students. Must climb stairs on a daily basis. Must work at a computer for several hours a day. Some events during the year require long periods of standing. Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate required evening and weekend work. Maintain a valid driver’s license.
