Primary Purpose

Assists the Director in the development and implementation of museum programs and objectives.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Serves as assistant to the Director of the Museum: attends meetings, represents the museum at public events, corresponds with potential donors, pursues additional development opportunities.


*Serves as the Director in Director's absence: oversees staff and daily operations of the museum, serves ex-officio on Arts Council.


*Serves as museum liaison officer and Treasurer for the Community Friends of the Art Museum (group of some 200 + boosters and financial supporters of Museum programs). Attends meetings, plans special events and receptions and writes promotional and fund-raising materials.


*Serves as Exhibition Curator: conceives, coordinates and executes planning of selected exhibitions.  Selects works, writes catalog essays and entries and maintains association with artists, dealer and lenders.


*Serves as Public Relations Officer for the Museum. Writes press releases for all programs and exhibitions and for bi-monthly College "Artsletter."


*Writes and edits label copy and additional materials for exhibitions organized and conceived by the Museum and relating to changing and ongoing installations of the permanent collection.


*Writes and edits bi-annual museum calendar brochure.


*Schedules public lectures and programs in conjunction with gallery exhibitions and collections and in conjunction with the College academic program.


*Researches objects in the collection and objects for possible acquisition. Participates in the Collections Committee of the College. Corresponds with potential donors to the collection.


*Serves on CAPP (Committee on Art in Public Places) at the College, a group composed of faculty, College administrators and Trustees. Coordinates and prepares grant applications for exhibitions, collection development and conservation.

Education & Training

Ph.D., College teacher.

Experience

Published art critic. Prior museum experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of foreign languages.
