Primary Purpose

Ensures the safety of our students working both in class and outside of class time to complete homework assignments and art projects.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Supervises the studio workshops (painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture) to ensure safe practices in art making and safe handling and storage of materials.


Supervises (together with the studio faculty) student assistants who serve as monitors and helpers with shop organization, cleanliness and maintenance.


Maintains and repairs equipment (or coordinates the repair of equipment with Facilities Management staff or outside technicians).


Coordinates the ordering of materials with the studio faculty and orders materials with an effort to save money and time.


Arranges for the storage and distribution of materials.


Develops and updates Material Safety Data sheets and notebooks for all studios.


 


* Works with the College safety officer to insure safe practices in the studios and safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.  Implements these policies and practices with the faculty, students and student monitors.


 


Acts as the manager of the Johnson Memorial Building, organizing and mounting exhibitions of artwork, maintaining the cleanliness (not custodial) and general appearance of the public space of the building, painting walls and pedestals, storing, recycling and disposing of materials and art projects as needed.

Education & Training

BA Required.

Experience

Experience in art making and the technical processes and equipment used in art making.  Industrial arts experience (woodworking, metalworking) highly desirable.

Knowledge

Basic computer skills.
