Primary Purpose

Takes full responsibility for the Mead Chapel Pulpit. Maintains


visibility and availability to the College Community and represents


the College to town clergy and their congregations.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Takes full responsibility for the pulpit.
Schedules visiting preachers, provides for their hospitality and sets their remuneration.
Prepares weekly service leaflet and arranges for Chapel needs(flowers, candles, etc.).
Enlists student participants in services.
Consults with Chapel Committee on the disposition of plate offerings.
Administers the Chaplain's Office budget.
Takes responsibility for planning liturgies for regular Sunday Services, communion services, baptisims, memorial services, weddings, funerals, etc.
Provides pre-marital counseling.
Visits College Community members when hospitalized or during other emergencies.
Contacts student when informed of a death in student's family. Assists the family in case of the death of a student, faculty or staff member.
Is available for counseling and consultation with member of College community.
Attempts to exercise a ministry of reconciliation where there is conflict among persons or groups.
Works with campus religious groups, ensures their access to the Chapel and initiates and encourages interfaith projects and services.
Maintains high visibility on campus in places where contact with students is informal: Crest Room, Field House, occasional student meetings, etc.
Offers hospitality of Chaplain's home for Bible study or other discussion groups; entertains students informally.
Represents the College to town clergy.
Participates in opportunities for community service as time permits.
Keeps in contact with own denomination which grants him/her ordination and the ecclesiastical faculties appertaining thereto.

Education & Training

Master of Divinity required. Additional degrees helpful.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years' experience in university or college ministry.  Teaching credentials and experience very helpful.

Knowledge

Counseling skills necessary.

Other

Interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion.
