Primary Purpose

Assists the Chaplain with general duties and serve as Associate Chaplain for the campus Jewish community.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Must be able to work with persons of various Jewish affiliations.

Promotes Jewish life on campus by offering guidance, resources and support for students and Hillel leaders.

Facilitates Shabbat services on campus on a regular basis and provides pastoral care as needed.

Educates the entire campus community regarding Jewish religion and culture through creative religious observance, counseling, programming events and teaching.

Works in conjunction with the Admissions Office to recruit and retain Jewish students

Helps College Advancement interpret Jewish life on campus to alumni and the public

Assists inn fundraising as requested

Acts as liaisons to student religious organizations

Facilitates interfaith dialogue and cooperation among student groups

Facilitates Religious Life Council (RLC) meetings

Plans and conducts Chaplain’s Forums and facilitates other student related programming in coordination with RLC and other departments

Provides pastoral care to college community members in times of illness or crisis

Provides liturgical leadership on campus

Acts as a liaison with community clergy

Maintains high visibility on campus in places where contact with students is informal.

Participates in opportunities for community service as time permits.

Keeps in contact with own denomination that grants ordination and the ecclesiastical faculties appertaining thereto.

Works with Havurah in accordance with Memorandum of Understanding.

Education & Training

Completion of rabbinical training from accredited rabbinical school or college and membership in a rabbinical association.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience in university or college ministry.  Teaching credentials and experience helpful.

Knowledge

Broad-based knowledge of Jewish religion, culture and history.  Counseling skills required.

Other
