Primary Purpose

Responsible for management of all books, including textbooks, course materials, course packs, general reading books, reference books, and special orders.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Assists customers as needed.

*Approves time for all store employees and reviews with Retail Coordinator Student time entry.

*With direction from Manager, creates work schedules for all employees, sets the number of part-time employees, and sets the number of student workers to be scheduled by Retail Coordinator.

*Assists the manager in hiring all full time employees, hires all part time employees, and assists Retail Coordinator in hiring all student employees.

*Supervises and delegates work to all employees, including students working in the book area.

*Coordinates communication with members of College community concerning books.

*Responsible for and oversees the textbook database.

*Orders the majority of textbooks electronically for Fall and Spring semester, as well as Winter Term, Language School, Bread Loaf School of English and Writers Conference.

Communicates with faculty over MS Mail order status and any problems regarding book orders.

Responsible for all phases of creating custom-published course pack, including: communicating and working with faculty, obtaining copyright permissions, coordinating printing with Reprographics, copyright payment to rights holders.

*Assists faculty with book searches.

*Maintains customer on-line book ordering system.

*Responsible for textbook accounting, inputting textbook invoices into banner for payment, and facilitates the payment of credit card statements for books.

Trains temporary help at the beginning of each semester.

Responsible for book returns in timely fashion, and follow-up to make sure we receive proper credit memos.

Works with Bookstore Manager to keep all book inventories to a minimum, advising of all speculative books to be kept more than a year, all wholesale used books, and all write off inventory.

Works with Bookstore Manager to setup book buyback at the end of each semester.

Communicates with faculty in timely fashion information about our textbook deadline dates. Communicates these deadlines at least one month in advance of each, with follow-up as the deadline approaches. Works with the Bookstore Manager in obtaining compliance on adoption deadlines.

*Assists Bookstore Manager with budget preparation, forecasting textbook revenue and expense figures.

*Responsible for the ordering of general reading and reference books and communications with faculty, staff, and students.

Orders books for special events such as author appearances, etc. and coordinates on-site sales with sponsoring department/organization.

Places special orders for customers as requested and notifies customer when the books arrive. Determines prices according to current Bookstore practices of applying discounts and acquisition costs.


Other duties as assigned.

Education & Training

High school education required.  Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

Previous retail/purchasing experience helpful. Computer experience. College Bookstore and textbook management experience preferred.

Knowledge

General computer knowledge helpful.  Strong math skills, typing skills necessary.

Other

Organizational knowledge and the ability to interact appropriately with people is important.
