Primary Purpose

Administers the daily operations of the Commons; serves as advisor for Commons residents; upholds and enforces College policies.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Works to support Commons Head’s leadership of the Commons community.

Collaborates with Commons Head and other administrators to plan and implement orientation of new students to Commons.

Communicates with parents as necessary.

Provides emergency response for Commons.

Performs general advising, including coordination of processes for exam changes, class absences, incompletes, major selection, requests for fifth course.

Provides personal counseling, referring students as necessary to other campus services and offices (Counseling Center, Health Center, etc.).

Maintains students’ files and writes recommendations.

Oversees enrollment processes (withdrawal and readmission).

Administers residential operations, including roommate conflict resolution and residentially based programming for first year students, move in/move out, safety programs, etc.

Resolves conduct infractions that do not require judicial hearings.

Supervises the work of the Commons Coordinator and Commons Residential Advisors. Along with Commons Head, directs work of First Year Counselors.

Works in conjunction with the Dean for Institutional Diversity to support and nurture diversity within the Commons community.

Works in conjunction with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Research to support students who exhibit academic deficiencies, including those on academic probation and those who receive warnings.

If a PhD, offers one course per year in the dean’s disciplinary specialization and contributes directly to the academic program.

Serves as needed on College-wide committees.

Education & Training

Master's degree required. PhD preferred.

Experience

3-5 years of prior experience in an academic college environment preferred.

Knowledge

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
