Primary Purpose

The Senior Residence Director has responsibility for the management of traditional residence halls housing Junior and Senior students. The SRD works to establish an environment that encourages residents to accomplish their academic goals and to participate in co-curricular personal growth experiences. Special emphasis is placed upon the role of the SRD as an advisor and mentor, promoting a meaningful integration of academic and residential life. The SRD also serves as an administrative coordinator for several non-residential life initiatives administered by the dean's office. Compensation includes salary, furnished apartment, board plan, and a full benefits package. Prospective Start Date: August 1, 2008.


**THIS IS A THREE-YEAR, TERM POSITION.**

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.



  • Hire, train, evaluate and supervise 10-15 resident assistants.
  • Assist in the oversight of housing for Junior and Senior students including Social and Academic Interest Houses.
  • Support the deans and other staff working in our Commons based residential system.
  • Act as liaison to the faculty, deans, community, and appropriate college offices through attendance at college community functions and committees.
  • Participate in campus-wide programming efforts operated by professional and student staff.
  • Coordinate dormitory openings and closings, maintain occupancy records and building inventories, facilitate room changes, and manage billing for damage to residence areas.
  • Respond to students and parents with issues and concerns.
  • Mediate roommate conflicts.
  • Participate in on-call evening and weekend duty rotations.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, training, recognition and formal evaluation of paraprofessional staff .
  • Collaborate with other college offices to engage students in campus programming initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Training

Master's degree is preferred in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or a related field; candidates with a bachelor's degree and significant residential life training may be considered.
