Primary Purpose

As a member of the Public Affairs teams, direct programs, projects and activities of the Public Affairs Office and on behalf of other College departments as assigned by the director of Public Affairs. Manages operations of the Public Affairs office.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

 

  • Manages duties and responsibilities of the public affairs office in the absence of the director and associate director.
  • Directs the hometown news program by identifying newsworthy student stories, conducting necessary research and interviews, writing news releases and obtaining photos.
  • Writes general interest press releases as well.
  • Assists in the direction and management of the public affairs student employees and interns.
  • Coordinates responses and also responds directly to incoming local and national media inquiries, schedules media interviews, and facilitates media coverage of public affairs events.
  • Coordinates responses and also responds directly to other queries and requests directed to the office from on and off campus.
  • Attends regular public affairs and communications department meetings, and represents the public affairs office at selected college and non-college meetings and events both on and off campus.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree required.

 

Experience

3-5 years of public relations/communications experience required, preferably journalistic writing experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of media relations and photographic management.

Other

Must be able to handle confidential information in a discreet fashion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
