Primary Purpose |
|
The Communications Web Producer works with the Director of Interactive Communications and College Communications to devise and implement strategies for web communications that meet the needs of Middlebury College.
|
Responsibilities |
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
- Oversees the development and implementation of Web sites and other interactive tools that effectively communicate in a manner consistent with the College's overall communications strategy; like a general contractor, the web producer coordinates the efforts of Communications staff members, Library and Information Services (LIS) staffers and third-party vendors.
- Provides direction and guidance for communications projects and online services, through analysis, needs assessment and project management.
- Ensures that all web content meets the College's standards for quality and style.
- Uses web analytics tools to gather and interpret usage data in order to advise on the optimization of processes and currently deployed online services.
- Monitors and analyzes current and emerging Internet trends, technologies and developments to help guide the planning and execution of online initiatives.
- Advises the director of interactive communications and College Communications on hardware and software and training required to enable staff to publish in diverse media.
- Collaborates with colleagues in Library Information Services (LIS) to ensure that College Communications is aware of the latest in web and other communications technologies.
- Performs other duties as assigned to assist College Communications in meeting its goals.

Education & Training |
|
Bachelor's degree required; Middlebury degree preferred.
|
Experience |
|
5-plus years experience in web site design, web content development, online journalism, or interactive marketing communications. Demonstrated aptitude in creating database-driven web sites with dynamic content; familiar with relational databases.

Knowledge |
|
Skilled user of software packages that facilitate design, layout, image preparation, and editing for web publication. Extensive knowledge of content management systems (CMS) for handling web content; fluency in XML, XHTML, CSS, HTML, Javascript, Flash. Experience in managing projects, including design and implementation. Strong writing and editing skills, and demonstrated success in writing and editing content for electronic media.

Combines creative energy with strong critical judgment. Possesses an interest and aptitude for exploring new media, and the drive to create and adapt communication strategies for them. Creative, team-oriented, client-focused, deadline- and results-oriented. Work experience in higher education, specifically liberal arts, preferred. Able to identify, organize, and accomplish tasks in priority order, and keep several projects moving ahead simultaneously with a minimum of supervision.
