Primary Purpose |
The Accounting Manager has day-to-day responsibility for grants and contracts accounting, and therefore supports and is in constant contact with the grants office (pre-award), researchers, faculty, federal and state agencies, and other organizations (Colleges and universities, foundations, etc.).
The Accounting Manager is a key member of the fiscal audit team.

Responsibilities |
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
20% Ensure timely and accurate transaction processing, account analysis, reconciliations and schedules; Prepare audit schedules and reconciliations. Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of general ledger information; Responsible for medical plan accounting and related reporting. Prepares financial statements for the medical and pension audit(s), and Delineation Corporation - and coordinate audit of the aforementioned. Performs calculations for monthly accrued bond interest and bond accounting functions. Supports the Assistant Controller in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
70% Ensures timely and accurate accounting and reporting for grants and contracts accounting; Responsible for grants and contracts billing and collections, proper recording of fringe benefits and indirect expense recovery - including overhead distribution - preparation and negotiation of the indirect cost and fringe benefits proposals with the requisite agency. Responsible for the timely completion of the fiscal audit and the A-133 audit, as it pertains to Grants and Contracts.
10% Other projects as assigned.

Education & Training |
|
A college degree in accounting, business, finance, or other related field (Bachelor's preferred), plus professional certifications (CPA, CCM, CTP, etc.) or graduate degree in business or finance. A thorough working knowledge of accounting (not-for-profit) principles and applications.

Experience |
|
Three or more years accounting experience in a business environment (higher education or public accounting experience preferred) with significant interpersonal contacts requiring independent professional judgment; BANNER Finance and project management; Microcomputer operations including database, spreadsheet and word processing.

Knowledge |
|
Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability to articulate strategies and implement policies; budget management; demonstrated ability to organize information, time and widely disparate priorities and complex issues so as to accomplish multiple, on-going and unrelated time critical tasks.

The Accounting Manager is a key person on the Assistant Controller's management team. Accordingly, the Accounting Manager must have well-developed interpersonal and human behavior skills to communicate effectively the importance of fiscal accountability, timely and accurate transaction processing, to gain the cooperation of the many diverse departments and to coordinate efforts to accomplish the goal of providing accurate and timely information, and providing exceptional service to constituents.
The Accounting Manager comes in contact with many different personalities and types of people. The goodwill of the College must be reflected to all who come in contact with the Accounting Manager, while utilizing appropriate measures to preserve the College's rights, resources, financial integrity and reputation in every instance. The Accounting Manager is routinely involved in highly sensitive matters; errors in judgment could adversely affect the financial integrity and the reputation of the College.
