Primary Purpose |

Leadership, planning, and day-to-day direction of Facilities Custodial Services operation to ensure that all campus facilities are properly cleaned and maintained.

Responsibilities |
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
Human Resources: *Supervises and evaluates approximately 100 professional, hourly and seasonal staff who provide a wide variety of services on a 365 day - 24 hour a day basis. Ensures that employee records are maintained. *Manages the logistics required of the above operations. Develops and implements scheduling to insure delivery of services to customers on a timely basis. *Hires professional staff, front-line supervisors and hourly staff. Prepares Position Descriptions. *Establishes staffing levels and departmental structures as required. Prepares incremental staffing requests and related written materials for realignment of work groups. *Develops and implements long and short-term departmental strategies, policies, procedures and standards. *Promotes organizational teamwork, participative management, customer service and collaborative problem solving. *Provides guidance for complex issues, work management and resource management. *Communicates effectively and appropriately, verbally and in writing, with individuals of extremely diverse backgrounds and large groups. Occasional public presentations required. Facilitates group meetings. *Establishes and maintains inter-departmental relations with all College departments. In collaboration with the College Safety Officer, assists in the delivery of a wide variety of safety-related programs and initiatives. Ensures compliance with relevant State and Federal codes. Establishes and implements staff training programs.
Operations/Business Management: *Inspects campus facilities, prepares work orders, schedules contracted services, coordinates work projects, coordinates operations with other departments and inspects completed projects. *In consultation with Director, prepares annual and forecasts long-term capital expenditure budget for Facilities Services Department. *In consultation with Director, administers budget for the operation and maintenance of all campus facilities. Establishes and implements fiscal control, reviews staff purchases and requests, budget planning and data gathering procedures. Serves on selected governance and event committees, i.e. Commencement. Attends major weekend events to ensure adequate support. *Develops plans and staffing levels to oversees the delivery of Facilities Services for major campus events, i.e. Commencement. *Maintains related departmental inventories for equipment, vehicles, and materials. *Assists Director and completes assigned special projects. Resolves issues and questions during Director’s absence. Assists other members of management team as requested.

Education & Training |
|
High School education or equivalent required with supervisory training desirable. Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred.

Experience |
|
Seven years of progressively responsible professional experience, a portion of which is in a higher education multi-building environment. Broad based and fully developed management experience, with a demonstrated record in directing service, operations, finance and human resources functions. Extensive knowledge of methods, equipment and personnel management is required. Must be familiar with computer-automated systems, record management and database systems.

Knowledge |
|
Knowledge of and experience with managing and/or supervising cleaning and custodial operations preferably in a large multi-building, multi-purpose environment. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Netscape, AS400 as required.

|

Ability to address and make decisions while adhering to policies. Maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be willing to work other than normal working hours and be willing to respond (if available) to emergency and service calls which occur outside of normal working hours. Must be a self-starter, able to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks concurrently, attend to detail and meet deadlines.
