Primary Purpose

Supervises maintenance and improvement of athletic fields and provides services required for athletic functions.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Maintains athletic fields and operates equipment necessary to complete aeration, fertilization, top dressing, mowing, irrigation, lining and related functions.


*Prepares athletic surfaces and associated equipment, i.e. scoreboards, public address systems, for practices, games, tournaments and events during all seasons.  Consults with coaches on team requirements.


*Recommends equipment and material needs, obtains pricing, prepares requisitions and places orders.


*Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Middlebury College and departmental policies and procedures.


*Supervises Athletic Field workers and seasonal employees, and recommends staffing needs.


*Supervises Landscape Services staff in absence of Supervisor.


*Removes snow from campus roads, parking lots and sidewalks.


Assists General Services and Recycling work areas.


Performs associated Facilities Services Department service work as requested, including but not limited to : snow removal, event set-up and clean up, truck loading and unloading and grounds maintenance.

Education & Training

High school diploma or equivalent experience required, advanced training in turf preparation preferred.

Experience

3 years experience in turf maintenance/management or related field; supervisory experience beneficial.

Knowledge

Must have knowledge of appropriate care of grounds and playing turf and athletic events.

Other

Pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain. Driver's license.  CDL or ability to obtain CDL.  Good interpersonal skills.  Must be available for scheduled and emergency work on evening and weekends.  Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of a regular or rotating shift.  Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime if necessary.  Must be able to lift 10-30 lbs. frequently during the day and up to 75 lbs. at least once each day.  Must be able to push and pull up to 150 lbs. frequently.  Requires frequent walking and long  periods of time standing.  Involves frequent bending, twisting, crouching and reaching.
