Primary Purpose |
|
Maintains seventeen existing perennial garden sites of varied size and scale, as well as nine container plantings of annuals and foundation shrub hedge.
|
Responsibilities |
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
Replaces damaged material as needed. Purchases annuals and chemicals required for treatment of plants. Must be able to work cooperatively with other golf course personnel and be available to help during special projects (ie: mowing with a lawn tractor, helping lay sod, clean up debris from strong storms.

Educational background: Courses in perennial gardening, landscape design, master gardner course helpful.

Experience |
|
This position requires a person with at least 3 years of experience with knowledge in the following areas:
1. Plant Pathology, Basic Entomology. 2. Diagnosis of plant diseases and treatments. 3. Pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer use and safety. 4. Pruning practices for woody ornamentals and herbaceous landscape plants. 5. Knowledge of soils, composting and proper mulching practices. 6. Landscape design. A good eye for balance in scope, scale and color. 7. Maintenance practices of perennials and annuals for continuous bloom and overall plant health.

Must be able to work indepently. Ability to work occasional weekends if necessary for watering. Hand tools such as nippers, pruners, shears, knife, weed digger, trowel loppers, hedge shears are not provided. Large tools such as spades, hand edger, forks, rakes and work cart are on site. Compost and bark mulch are provided. Need to be able to drive standard shift work cart. Some lifting required (up to 40 lbs.).
