Primary Purpose

Assists the RN in charge with caring for students that come to the health center.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Provides appropriate care to students as directed by the RN in charge.

Monitors health status and vital signs of inpatients and reports changes in status to the RN on duty.

Documents care provided in the students' records.

Abides by the confidentiality policy at the health center.

Answers the phone, takes information from the caller and refers to the RN for follow-up.

Assists with housekeeping and ordering duties as requested by the RN.

Duties include disinfecting and cleaning in-patient rooms, exam rooms, restocking forms and supplies in the exam rooms, and autoclaving instruments.

Occasionally assists students who have an injury or if they become light-headed. When this happens, staff members should assist the person to a safe position and call for help.

Education & Training

High school diploma, Vermont EMT certification, CPR certification.

Experience

Physical assessment and first aid skills at a level expected of EMTs, bloodborne pathogen training.

Knowledge

Must handle confidential information in compliance with health center policy. Professional attire and communication skills in person and on the phone.
