Primary Purpose

The employment manager is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the institution’s staff recruitment and employment programs. As a member of the Human Resources Management team, provides strategic HR leadership in broader service areas.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

  • In conjunction with the other HR Management Team members and the AVP of Human Resources/Organization Development, provides strategic leadership regarding broad HR topics and direction and services.
  • Directs all aspects of the staff Request for Personnel process including oversight of materials for review by the Staff Resources Committee.
  • Continually investigate, develop, and administer both short and long term recruitment strategies for all levels of the institution’s professional and support staff.
  • Oversee the process by which the employment coordinator, hiring managers and the HR generalists, collaborate to develop meaningful recruitment strategies for current job openings.
  • Directly manage and supervise Employment staff to ensure that outstanding service is provided to employees, the HR department, and to Middlebury College and its community.
  • Proactively recruits candidates utilizing a variety of sourcing tools including job fairs, networking, targeted advertising and employee referrals.
  • Establishes and routinely reviews best practices in employment. In collaboration with the staff training and development manager and the hr generalists, develops effective ways to implement and communicate enhancements and provide consistent and effective training to hiring managers and supervisors regarding all stages of the hiring process.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current legal requirements and government regulations affecting the recruitment function and ensures policies and procedures are in compliance.
  • Defines, tracks and communicates data for monthly key employment metrics reports for senior management.
  • Directs the employment verification process for the summer language school payroll to include BLSE, BLWC & MMLA seasonal hires.

Education & Training

Bachelor’s degree in related area required. Certification as a Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) required.

Experience

5-7 years of related professional HR experience in recruitment or employment. Experience supervising, working with automated applicant tracking systems and supporting an effective Diversity environment.

Knowledge

Strong knowledge of employment laws as they pertain to the hiring process. Computer proficiency required. Knowledge of SCT-Banner a plus.

Other

Strong analytical, problem-solving and planning skills.  Excellent communications skills, written and oral.  Must handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion.
