Primary Purpose

Writes copy, edits and produces the College's internal employee newsletter.  Supports the Human Resources department by participating in various special projects.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Produce Midd Points on schedule and within established editorial parameters:

    -Solicit, layout and edit articles that are of general interest to the College commuity or that include information that either Administration or Human Resources needs to communicate to employees.

    -Write articlies, as necessary, that are of general interest to the College community or that include information that either Administration or Human Resources needs to communicate to employees.

    -Ensure that articles are professionally written and edited in terms of content, grammar, spelling, structure, length, etc.

    -Work with the College Communications department to ensure that the newsletter is consistent with the organization-wide communication goals and approach.

    -Coordinate printing process with reprographics department to ensure that the print issues go out on schedule and that the printing budget is adhered to.

    -Manage and prioritize article schedules so that cyclical articles (i.e., benefits reminders, merit reminders, etc.) are included and so that there is room for new, time-sensitive articles.

*Make recommendations to management on new features, themes, etc., to advance the mission of the College or increase employee interest or involvement.

*Develop newsletter features designed to further recognize employee accomplishments (years of service, certifications, degrees, licenses, publications, speeches, etc.).

*Work with LIS to develop and implement a procedure to distribute the newsletter electronically to non-benefit-eligible employees.

*Answer e-mail and phone inquiries from employees or other interested parties regarding future articles, editorial policy, classified advertising, etc.

*Communicate with employees, administration and others as necessary to confirm submission of articles or advertising and to work through editorial changes.

*Other:  Provide support to the Human Resources department by working on various special projects and providing backup coverage.

Education & Training

B.A. in English, Journalism, Writing or similar major or equivalent experience.

Experience

4 years of writing experience or equivalent education.

Knowledge

Excellent writing and organization skills and strong computer skills, including word processing and publication software.

Other

Must be detail-oriented, able to work with a minimum of supervision, have a high degree of accuracy, excellent writing skills and good customer service skills.
