Primary Purpose

Collects and reports information about Middlebury College to internal and external audiences.  Work with Dean of Faculty on re-accreditation initiatives.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Supports initiatives as defined by the Institutional Research Director.  Handle external reporting functions for the college, generate data reports (i.e. the Student Profile, FactBook, and Common Data Set), and administer the annual group of student surveys Middlebury College participates in.
 
Answer ad hoc data requests and run other surveys, such as the Language School Alumni Survey.

Involved in supporting special projects for senior administrators, such as the Diversity FactBook.

Management of institutional research, data reporting, and decision-support needs of senior administrators and other college decision-makers. Involved with strategically significant initiatives for the college, including a variety of re-accreditation related initiatives. 

Take action to directly help facilitate the self-study process.  Set up and maintain an internal web site for re-accreditation work with links to useful sites, documents to help the self-study process, meeting documentation, and inventories of available survey tools.  Report findings from various Assessment Workshops.

Develop more systematic approaches to IR responsibilities.
Foster the analysis and dissemination of student survey data to inform campus-generated research questions. 

Identify areas for improvement and to enhance college data storage, retrieval, and accessibility in both short and long term ways. 

Participate in various campus committees, such as the Hyperion Users Group and Admissions Advisory Committee.  

Point of contact for strategic performance indicators and other comparative data reports for senior administrators and Trustees.  Primary contact for HEDS, NECASL (Teagle), and IPEDS.  Respond to requests from AVIC and VHEC.
 
Prepare proposals for the IR budget and work as IR budget contact.

· Serve as college resource for comprehensive information regarding key performance indicators, characteristics of the college, and current trends in education. Develop procedures and processes for collecting and maintaining benchmark data.

· Analyze and interpret academic and strategic data in support of college decision-making. Prepare reports and presentations as needed.

· Plan, design, conduct, and complete approved research projects for educational, administrative, and strategic planning within timelines established. Disseminate results appropriately.

· Work collaboratively with the college community to complete institutional research, planning, and assessment activities as well as special projects involving both quantitative statistical analyses and qualitative research. Help integrate student outcomes assessment into planning and management.

· Prepare regular reports on enrollment, degrees granted, and other related topics such as reports addressing campus issues.

· File regular mandatory and voluntary data submissions for the college.

· Coordinate the college’s timely response to internal and external data requests.

· Ensure the accuracy and consistency of college data.

· Serve on college committees: Re-accreditation, Data Warehousing, Hyperion Users Group, and others as needed.

· Maintain the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning web site.

· Manage the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning budget.

· Collaborate with other institutional research leaders on issues of mutual interest through consortiums such as NECASL and HEDS as well as local and national conferences.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

2 - 5 years prior exposure to the Web, research methods and to the administration of higher education is highly desirable.

Knowledge

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SPSS or SAS.

Other

Requires a systematic approach to problem-solving, good judgment and superior quantitative and analytical skills.
