Primary Purpose |
|
The Associate Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS) will work along with the other members of the LIS Administrative and Strategic teams, to provide leadership, direction and oversight for the planning and operations of Library and Information services (LIS) at Middlebury College. The Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean to develop programmatic and organizational initiatives to enhance the academic program and other services provided by LIS to Middlebury students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other constituencies. She/he will contribute her/his individual skills and expertise as needed in order to achieve the goals and objectives set by the organization.

Responsibilities |
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide direct supervision to assigned clusters within LIS Work as a member of the LIS administrative team to assist with planning and operations, and to provide leadership to specific initiatives. Provide support, direction, and oversight in the areas of strategic planning, budgeting and assessment. Plan for future, applying knowledge of trends and emerging technologies, with attention to operational implications and details. Oversee policy related to contracts, purchasing, licensing and related items. Communicate policies and plans within LIS and to the broader college community.

Education & Training |
|
Masters Degree or an equivalent combination of degree and experience.
|
Experience |
|
Demonstrated leadership in an academic setting, including work in both information technology and library services.
|
Knowledge |
|
High degree of knowledge of information technology environment, including understanding and vision of emerging trends in technology, administrative and academic needs.
|
Other |
|
Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong financial or accounting background with ability to translate fiscal needs. Strong customer service skills including ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel. Commitment to working in a demanding environment, including work as needed to meet deadlines and project timeframes in response to institutional needs.
