Primary Purpose

As a member of the Resource Development & Services Cluster you will contribute to the Development of the collections and services of the Library and Information Services in order to meet the teaching and learning needs of the Middlebury community. Interlibrary Loan provides ready access to materials not within the collections and resources of LIS. In so doing, ILL provides information that informs decisions about collection development.

Working in conjunction with the Circulation Services team you share a common responsibility to provide excellent customer service to all who seek help in locating and using information resources. You will offer support to staffing Circulation, Reserves, and at the Information Desk, relying on teamwork and judgment in establishing priorities among changing and competing demands.

As Interlibrary Loan Assistant you will work to provide excellent service to the Middlebury community and to our borrowing and lending partners by: Assisting with borrowing and lending; tracking problem borrowing requests, supervising student assistants in ILL, Reserves and Circulation work; participating with the training of student assistants; representing Middlebury at ILL meetings and conferences, and maintaining excellent working relationships with the ILL network in our state, region and beyond.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

· Provide excellent service to Middlebury constituents and our borrowing partners.

· Provide weekend coverage for ILL Borrowing and Lending.

· Supervises student assistants in the work of ILL, and assists in training.

· Operates OCLC interlibrary loan systems, electronic mail, library circulation system, Ariel and ILLiad.

· Handles problem requests.

· Responsible for meeting all deadlines.

· Appropriately applies interlibrary loan policies, state, network and national codes

· Provide direct support to others in Circulation Services and at the Information Desk

· Coordinates work schedule with other staff in Circulation Services to ensure coverage within the department.

· Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
