Primary Purpose

The Director of Project Support Services directs and coordinates all services offered by NITLE in support of inter-institutional collaborative projects, insuring their pedagogical appropriateness, timeliness, intellectual integrity, and general quality.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Key services provided include identification of appropriate projects for development, support for planning processes, identification and recruitment of potential collaborators, coordination of technology training and support needed by project participants, coordination of the creation, deployment, and maintenance of products created by or for projects, coordination of project assessments, identification of opportunities to expand successful projects, articulation and dissemination of lessons learned from projects, and any others as appropriate. On occasion the Director represents NITLE at professional conferences and events and attends NITLE’s own conferences, workshops, or events.

The Director of Project Support Services supervises NITLE’s Program Officers and (jointly with the Director of Professional Development) supervises the Technology Manager and team, as well as the Events Planner.

As a senior member of the NITLE staff, the Director of Project Support Services works closely with the Director of Professional Development to oversee a national agenda of programming in instructional technology. The Director of Project Support Services also works closely with the Directors of Research and of Strategy and Planning to identify and recommend areas for new project development and with the Managers of Participant Relations and Communications to identify project opportunities and to disseminate information about and lessons learned from projects. As a member of the Senior Staff, the Director of Project Support Services advises NITLE’s Executive Director on all aspects of NITLE programming and operations.

 

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with liberal arts background preferred. Graduate degrees preferred

 

Experience

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage simultaneous complex tasks and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, analyze, and communicate complex information for various audiences and constituencies
  • Strong knowledge of standard technologies in use in higher education and their pedagogical applications and implications
  • Knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies of potential interest to higher education
  • Strong understanding of the pedagogical values and organizational structures of liberal arts colleges
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of and to work effectively with faculty, IT staff, and librarians from liberal arts colleges
  • Comfort and fluency with communications tools such as email, teleconferencing and videoconferencing, web-based collaboration environments, and other tools for remote collaboration with both NITLE colleagues and project participants
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and track multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to create supportive, challenging, and fulfilling supervisory relationships
  • Personal integrity, energy, flexibility, good judgment, creativity, and a sense of humor
  • At least 10 years’ increasing-responsible experience in higher education, instructional technology, or the non-profit sector, with experience with liberal arts colleges strongly preferred.
  • Experience in teaching, educational programming, or faculty development strongly preferred

Knowledge

  • Fluency with standard office technologies and willingness to learn new applications when required
  • Ability and willingness to travel to NITLE’s regional offices and to conferences and events: ability and willingness to work extended hours
