Primary Purpose

Develop, oversee and implement faculty and staff development workshops in a range of technologies used for pedagogical purposes for the liberal arts colleges served by NITLE.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

  • In collaboration with other members of the NITLE Technology Team, develop and implement distributed technology training solutions for faculty and staff professional development in the areas of digital media production, web development, utilization of information resources developed by other Ithaka entities such as ARTstor and JSTOR, and other computer skills.
  • Serve as an instructor, either leading or co-teaching with a campus expert or another instructional technologist, at approximately 20 workshops and related events annually on the campuses of affiliated colleges.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and materials for NITLE workshops.
  • Consult with directors of instructional technology and/or other appropriate administrators on campuses affiliated with NITLE regarding technology training needs and pedagogically appropriate uses of digital media technology.
  • Consult with affiliated colleges on lab design and the deployment of such hardware and software in support of instruction.
  • Work with instructional technologists from colleges affiliated with NITLE to engage and organize their participation in a network of experts able to offer distributed faculty/staff professional development.
  • Provide digital media and web development expertise as part of various NITLE project teams and planning groups.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree in an appropriate field preferred.

Experience

  • Excellent teaching, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and at least five years experience teaching technical concepts and skills in a higher education setting and with an emphasis on pedagogy.
  • Expert capabilities in a wide variety of applications for digital imaging, digital audio and video production and delivery, and development of interactive, web-deployed multimedia content (see appended list of currently offered NITLE workshops)
  • Strong knowledge of both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
  • Experience working as part of an integrated, mutually interdependent, distributed technology team.
  • Ability to manage contact with remote colleagues and program participants.
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot technical problems effectively in unfamiliar settings.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Familiarity with the distinctive features and mission of liberal arts institutions, including the ability to relate to liberal arts college faculty.
