Primary Purpose

Works with the staff of the Center for Educational Technology (CET) and the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education (NITLE) to develop and implement a communications strategy, promoting their programs and highlighting their achievements.Manages on-site logistics for CET and NITLE programs.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

(1)  Works with the senior administration of CET and NITLE to develop and implement a communications strategy that provides optimal information for our constituents and promotes upcoming programs.


(2)  Researches and writes feature articles for the NITLE News and the CET Newsletter.


(3)  Copyedits both newsletters, manages production of print newsletter with outside design/print services.


(4)  Develops online, hyperlinked editions of both newsletters.Assists with website content development, from generating new content to updating and ensuring the accuracy of existing content.


(5)  Develops and manages relational databases for tracking participation in CET and NITLE activities and generating customized communications to various participant groups.


(6)  Writes and publishes bi-weekly information bulletin for key constituents, disseminating CET/NITLE news and promoting programs.


(7)  Researches technological trends and innovations of interest to higher education, and writes and publishes reports on these topics through CET and NITLE weblogs.


(8)  Provides photographic documentation of CET and NITLE events both on- and off-site for use on websites and in newsletters and special publications.


(9)  Maintains and revises CET/NITLE style manual to keep up to date with current technology terms and usage.


(10)  Writes and/or edits reports and proposals.


(11)  Provides administrative coordination for the admissions and registration processes for CET and NITLE programs, including communications (written, telephone, email) with prospective and continuing participants.


(12)  Coordinates implementation of scheduled activities, including workshops and national and regional conferences.


(13)  Coordinates preparation of materials for CET and NITLE activities.


(14)  Assists with copyright research and negotiations with copyright holders for permission to use protected materials. 


(15)  Coordinates and manages the provision of necessary services to program participants (including housing, access to library and other facilities, preparation and updating of information for participants and visitors).


(16)  Compiles evaluations and feedback forms from program participants.


(17)  Oversees communication with various organizations for major public functions (e.g., scheduling office, restaurants and hotels).

Assists CET and NITLE administrators on special projects, as required.

Education & Training


Bachelor's degree with background pertinent to communications and liberal arts education.

Experience

Must have 3-5 years of office/administrative experience or the equivalent, including:


(1)  Expertise and significant experience in written and oral communication;


(2)  Expertise in developing and managing relational databases (FileMaker Pro or the equivalent);


(3)  High level of competence in the use of office productivity software (MS Office suite or the equivalent) and other relevant software applications such as web editors.

High level of comfort working in a networked environment that relies heavily on computer mediated communication.

Knowledge

Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail are essential.

Must be able to handle confidential materials with tact and discretion.  Must be comfortable working with people representing a wide range of languages and cultures.
