Advises Middlebury students who wish to participate in non-Middlebury study abroad programs, including advising regarding program selection, applications, financial aid, credit transfer, Middlebury policies, health and safety, cross-cultural adjustment, and other academic and non-academic issues.
Responds to inquiries from students, parents , faculty, and staff regarding non-Middlebury study abroad programs.
Responds to students' (on non-Middlebury programs) inquiries from abroad and acts as their liaison to campus should questions or problems arise.
Assists students with off-campus study options other than study abroad (e.g., transferring credit from other institutions, work/volunteer abroad, etc.)
Advises Febs and their parents about study, volunteer, and travel opportunities abroad and in the US before they matriculate at Middlebury.
Manages database, students' files and Banner student status for all students participating in non-Middlebury off-campus study programs.
Coordinates the Programs Abroad Committee process, including preparation of student files and agenda for PAC meetings, student and advising follow-up, writing minutes, generating and distributing approval/deferral/denial letters, and university, program, and/or country research.
Reviews all applications for students to participate in non-Middlebury programs.
Makes/approve/defer/deny recommendations to the Programs Abroad Committee (PAC).
Coordinates transcripts and materials for transfer credit from abroad.
Makes recommendations to the Dean of International Programs on the awarding of transfer credits (i.e. weight and grade translations) from study abroad for all students who have participated in non-Middlebury study abroad programs.
Researches grading scales and makes recommendations on grade translations for universities abroad.
Liaises with Registrar’s Office on transfer credit issues and entering grades and credit for students who have participated in non-Middlebury study abroad programs.
Prepares and presents all pre-departure orientation meetings for students participating in non-Middlebury study abroad programs.
Writes and updates the on-line pre-departure orientation for students participating in non-Middlebury study abroad programs.
Prepares and presents re-entry meetings or workshops in conjunction with other Off-Campus Study staff members.
Manages study abroad library.
Revises forms (e.g., study abroad application and evaluation forms, guideline booklets, transfer credit forms, etc.)
Writes and prepares handouts and handbook for pre-departure, re-entry, sophomore meeting, parents meetings, etc.
Calculates statistics for all Middlebury study abroad, including Open Doors Survey.
Plans and presents other special meetings regarding study abroad opportunities.
Coordinates summer mailing and parent mailing to students studying abroad on non-Middlebury programs.
Trains and supervises graduate student intern.
Communicates with host programs and universities.
Coordinates all aspects of annual study abroad fair and any other program and university visits to campus.
Communicates with other departments on campus (e.g., department chairs and assistants, faculty, Dean of Student Affairs Office, Commons Offices, Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, Admissions, Counseling, Student Financial Services, College Advancement, etc.) regarding study abroad students, statistics, study abroad issues, etc.
Oversees international exchange programs, including communication with host institutions and record-keeping.
Coordinates registration mailings to all students abroad with Registrar’s Office.
Maintains and updates Off-Campus Study web pages (excluding the Middlebury Schools Abroad pages.)
Represents Middlebury at conferences.
Performs other duties as assigned.
