Primary Purpose

As Executive Assistant to the President, works closely with the president, providing assistance and advice. Manages a wide variety of activities and confidential assignments. Serves as a member of President's Staff and represents the College in dealing with staff, faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees and the public.

As Secretary of the Corporation, works closely with the chair and president on all matters related to the Board of Trustees. Serves as primary College contact for all trustees. Manages all aspects of four regular trustee meetings, special meetings, and other events involving trustees. Manages the permanent records of the corporation.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

As Executive Assistant to the President:

Works closely with the president, providing assistance and advice, and handling routine matters.

Serves as a member of president's staff.

Serves as a member of special committees (e.g., inaugural, planning, reaccredidation, etc.).

Manages special projects (e.g., presidential and vice presidential searches, presidential appointments and resignations, inaugurations, reaccreditations, special functions, lectures, etc.).

Prepares written and speech material for the president.

Manages budgets and presidential discretionary funds.

Supervises and prepares performance evaluations for office staff members.

Serves as proxy for president in routine administrative matters (e.g., approval of time for direct reports).

Takes on special assignments as needed (e.g., MIIS steering committee).



As Secretary of the Corporation:

Manages all matters related to the Board of Trustees and attends all meetings.

Works with chair and president to set agendas for regular and special board meetings.

Coordinates all material for meetings and manages all mailings.

Plans, prepares, and executes all activities related to and surrounding board meetings.

Serves as liaison for several board committees (e.g., Prudential, Committee on Trustees and Governance)

Serves as liaison to the board for all campus and off-campus constituencies.

Writes and produces annual board handbook and board directory.

Manages board legal documents, including bylaws, disclosure information, and records.

Prepares and maintains permanent records of the board.

Education & Training

Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience

5-10 year successful track record of providing management in a complex, multi-faceted organization, preferably within higher education.

Knowledge

Strategic and analytic perspective, in addition to broad knowledge of the operations of the College.

Other

Must be creative and enjoy working within a collegial environment that focuses on goal achievement. Requires ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations. Requires strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple institutional priorities. Requires ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, without support staffing. Must be able to work under pressure and handle confidential matters with discretion.
