Primary Purpose |
|
Oversees the effective operation of the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Under the Director's guidance, DPS will deliver safety and security services which includes the development, implementation, and administration of programs that assist the campus community in maintaining order, and/or improving the personal safety of the students, faculty, staff, guests and property of the College.

Responsibilities |
Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
*Provides vision, leadership, and direction to the DPS. *Oversees and manages the DPS. *Facilitates the development of short and long range plans to meet the needs of the College community. *Facilitates and oversees the integration of DPS services into the broader campus community. *Makes recommendations for DPS facilities, equipment, personnel and operations needs. *Identifies and facilitates programs for staff development and training. *Administers the budget. *Promotes positive community service and relations with the entire campus community and assures all department members do the same. *Hires, supervises, evaluates and disciplines department staff. *Assures commitment and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, College rules and regulations and department policies by all department members. *Oversees and manages policy development, preparation and implementation. *Assures cooperation with all College departments to coordinate events and safety programs. *Oversees the management and confidentiality of all records.
*Oversees the parking control plan and parking enforcement.
*Oversees the residential key distribution and billing for lost keys. *Plans and oversees emergency response protocol. *Assures the completion of necessary reports and the dissemination of pertinent information to affected persons. *Oversees the enforcement of safety regulations, state law and College rules and policy. *Collaborates with the campus community to problem solve and resolve conflicts. *Coordinates the fire safety program with department staff and College personnel. *Facilitates the liaison between DPS, the College and various law enforcement and service agencies (including, but not limited to, police, fire and state liquor control). Administers the centralized "secured property" of the College. Directs and oversees crime prevention programs. Assures the Public Log is printed and available each business day.

Education & Training |
|
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in an area of administration.
|
Experience |
|
Previous supervisory and budgetary experience required. Should have proven record of leadership, strong interpersonal skills and/or experience in counseling/training. Must have worked in a diverse environment and have had experience at an academic institution.

Knowledge |
|
Must be well-versed in safety requirements and laws, including liquor guidelines and law enforcement areas.
