Primary Purpose

Performs pre-press, press and finishing operations related to all materials produced in college printing department.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

Works independently to provide printing services to the college and other businesses.

Completes all pre-press, press and post-press work associated with each order completed. Operates specialized printing equipment to produce professional documents that meet highest quality standards and professional printing registration requirements.

Prepares and prioritizes orders for printing, based on the needs of all on and off-campus customers. Coordinates multiple projects to provide optimal efficiency of printing workflow and use of materials to meet the deadlines requested by customers. Works collaboratively with the college designer to ensure efficient workflow of each phase of an order from design, to pre-press preparations, to the actual printing.

Provides technical support to customers. Includes advice to customers regarding cost reduction, reduction of printing times, and overall quality of the finished product. Provides customers with information regarding using the most environmentally friendly materials available. Monitors use and containment of hazardous chemicals.

Cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment daily. Repairs various mechanical breakdowns not covered by service contracts. Arranges professional service and repairs on equipment when needed.

Prepares price estimates and final charges for all printed orders. Maintains records of each printing order completed, which includes materials used, quantities, costs, etc.

When needed processes requisitions and purchase orders to order supplies for the department using Banner software. Organizes and inventories departmental supplies using various computer software.

Assists with running the department when the manager is out. Serves as proxy for time approval of department employees when needed.

Reviews work within the department and from customers to ensure accuracy is maintained. Assists with other duties in the department when needed. Operates other specialized equipment within the department as needed.

Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established college and departmental policies and procedures.

Education & Training

High school education or equivalent experience required. Computer skills required.

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years previous printing experience required. Journeyman’s license preferred.

Knowledge

Knowledge of various printing techniques and equipment. Mechanical competence preferred.

Other

Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. frequently during the day and up to 75 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to push and pull up to 200 lbs. Requires long periods of time standing. Also requires frequent bending, twisting and reaching.

Must, at times be able to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced stressful environment. Excellent organizational, technological and communications skills required. Must handle confidential information in a discreet manner.
