Primary Purpose

To provide assistance with the daily operation of the laboratory animal facility.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Ensures that animals are provided feed, water, bedding and clean cages according to their individual care requirements
*Observes animals daily for signs of illness or disease
*Ensures proper environmental conditions are met (temperature, lighting, humidity). Tracks and records relevant data.
*Performs appropriate housecleaning and sanitation procedures.
*Operate standard equipment such as cagewasher, autoclave, bottlefiller or ventilated rack system
*Follow standard operating procedures
*Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Training

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Knowledge

Basic computer skills- Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel.

Other

Must be detail oriented, reliable and able to work independently. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. (bags of feed, bedding). Must not have allergies to animals to a degree that prevents the performance of the duties listed above. General affinity and respect for animals and their welfare. Able to adapt to fast paced, changing environment. Overtime, holidays and weekends will be required.
