Primary Purpose

Determines eligibility for institutional and federal financial aid and counsels recipients on all aspects of Middlebury's financial aid programs.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Performs institutional need analysis and federal eligibility calculation for admitted First Year, Language School and Bread Loaf applicants and returning undergraduates.


*Constructs aid packages within the established guidelines and policies to meet the objectives of the College.


*Uses professional judgement to work with parents and aid recipients to resolve issues regarding financial aid decisions and procedures within established guidelines.


*Reviews, calculates and processes adjustments to student financial aid packages.


*Works with enrolled students to maximize understanding of aid policies and procedures related to on and off-campus study opportunities.


*Acts as resource for support staff on undergraduate procedures.


*Electronically transfers aid to accounting system.


*Develops and refines financial aid process and computer systems for upperclass aid process, including oversight of delivery system.


*Oversees the administration of the off-campus Federal Work Study Program.


*Develops financial aid application procedures for on leave programs.


*Serves as liaison with the Controller's Office.


*Develops and updates the Financial Aid Policy and Procedure manual.


*Convenes financial aid team responsible for review of new and changed federal regulations.


*Makes recommendations for implementation to Director.


*Consults with other departments on campus (primarily the Dean of Students Office and the Office of Off-Campus Study) to coordinate/update information concerning student recipients.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

1-2 years of financial aid experience and general computer experience required.  Direct customer service experience desired.

Knowledge

Knowledge of accounting and federal tax systems as it relates to financial aid programs is essential.  Understanding of customer service concepts and ability to relate these concepts to financial aid environment.

Other

Must handle confidential information in a discreet manner.  Requires effective customer-oriented communication skills and appreciation of different cultures.
