Primary Purpose

The Assistant Director of Educational Financing has broad responsibility for the management of the Educational Financing unit within Student Financial Services.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

The primary objectives for this position are to:


 



  1. Ensure that maximum care and service is used to assist parents and students to finance a Middlebury College education - including the undergraduate, study abroad, language schools, and Breadloaf Schools of English student populations.

 



  1. Maintains relationships with external service providers, including lenders, payment plan providers, guarantee agencies, etc. Administer and manage federal, institutional and private student and parent loans.

 



  1. Coordinate billing and collection of Perkins and College Loan programs.

 



  1. Ensure, in collaboration with the SFS Systems liaison(s), that all SCT Banner modules and processes related to Educational Financing are working effectively and efficiently. 

 



  1. Serve as liaison with Perkins servicing agency, as well as external collection agencies.

 



  1. Manage reconciliation processes for all loan programs.

 



  1. Lead and direct, with respect and integrity, a group of one to two staff to ensure the goals and objectives of the department and the College are achieved.

 



  1. Assist in development of innovative strategies to deliver student financial services.

 



  1. Assist SFS management with research on transitioning from DL to FFELP.  Provide guidance to loan coordinator on researching tools.

 



  1. Performed other duties as assigned.

 

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

Customer service experience essential.

Knowledge

Requires knowledge of PC applications and strong mathematical abilities.

Other

The Assistant Director of Educational Financing is a key member of the SFS management team.  An in-depth knowledge of federal loan regulations, institutional and alternative loan methods and payment plan processes is required.


 


In addition, a working knowledge of financial aid need analysis is required.


 


Also, knowledge of billing, collection, and cashiering principles, institutional aid budget development, and accounting principles and methods for receivables and loans is required.  In addition, knowledge of the SCT Banner system specifically as it relates to the financial aid, student accounts receivable, and finance modules, is required.


 


Finally, a strong commitment to service to parents and students is required for the success of the student financial services group.  Therefore, a strong commitment to service is an essential and mandatory trait of the Assistant Director of Educational Financing.


 


The Assistant Director of Educational Financing comes in contact with many different personalities and types of people.  The goodwill of the College must be reflected to all who come in contact with the Assistant Director, while utilizing appropriate measures to preserve the College's rights, resources, financial integrity and reputation in every instance.  The Assistant Director is routinely involved in highly sensitive matters; errors in judgment could adversely affect the financial integrity and the reputation of the College.
