Primary Purpose

Manages the William D. Ford Direct Student Loan Program at the College.  Provides backup support for the Financial Aid Assistants.

Responsibilities

Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.

*Manages all aspects of the Direct Loan Program including:


Assists students in completing application process; utilizes loan tracking system to request follow-up information.


Determines and/or verifies loan eligibility for student and parent loans.


Communicates with Department of Education and vendors through FedExpress.


Performs federal verification for loan-only applicants.


Prints, distributes and verifies DL promissory notes.


Plans, schedules and conducts entrance and exit interviews.


Reconciles loan records and works with Controller's Office on reconciling funds drawn from Department of Education.


Completes Student Status Confirmation Reports electronically.


Remains current on program regulations, policies, and procedures.


*Supervises two administrative assistants; conducts annual performance evaluations.


*Responsible for ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service, both from the administrative assistants and personally; investigates and pursues customer service enhancements.


*Hires, trains and supervises all workstudy students in the Financial Aid Office.


Provides backup coverage for financial aid assistants.


Maintains and organizes file drawers and coordinates archives for all student populations.


Attends registration for Language Schools and Bread Loaf populations.

Education & Training

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

Experience

Minimum of one year in academic setting with some responsibility for federal loan programs.  PC based computer experience helpful.

Knowledge

Knowledge of federal student loan programs helpful.

Other

Must handle confidential information in a discreet manner.  Must be able to work independently and manage many competing tasks successfully.  Must be able to maintain customer service orientation in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
