Welcome to Middlebury College's Recycling Web page. I am Melissa (Missy) Beckwith, the Recycling Supervisor at Middlebury College. Our Recycling program consists of 5 full- time Waste Management staff that perform all aspects of Waste management. We also hire students during the Fall and Spring semesters to assist in the sorting and collecting of materials. Our goal is to recycle everything the market allows us to in the most efficient way possible. Our goal is to offer convenient, efficient and effective Waste Management services to the college community and to serve as an educational opportunity to our students, community and other institutions.
RECYCLING MADE SIMPLE
We collect materials in two bins:
The first bin is for ALL WASTE PAPER. This includes all white and colored office paper, envelopes with and without windows, post-it notes, boxboard, magazines, newspapers, books - hard and soft covered, shredded paper, and almost any other paper product. The most common exceptions are WAXED OR CARBON PAPERS, POTATO CHIP BAGS, OR ANY PLASTIC COATED PAPER.
The second bin is for GLASS, TIN and PLASTIC. This includes #1 - #7 plastic, redeemable and nonredeemable cans, plastic containers, and metal lids. Remember, please rinse all of these containers and remove the lids prior to placing them in the bin.
Cardboard is broken down and stacked next to the recycling bins for collection.
Other materials are either picked up upon request by the Waste Management staff or can delivered to the Recycling Center for processing.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas to improve the program, please email beckwith@middlebury.edu or call me at ext. 5267. Your input is valuable and always welcomed.
