HUMANE STUDIES FELLOWSHIPS


PURPOSE
Supports juniors, seniors, and graduate students in the social sciences or humanities with demonstrated interest in the classical liberal/libertarian tradition of individual rights and market economies, and the intention of applying the principles of this tradition in their work --- for study in US or abroad.  Awards are based on academic performance, relevance of work to the advancement of a free society, and potential for success.

AWARD
Stipend up to $12,000 maximum.  Amounts awarded take into account the cost of tuition and any other funds received.  One-year award; students may re-apply.

NUMBER OFFERED
In 2005-06, IHS awarded 5 scholarships to undergraduates --- and 105 scholarships to graduate students, law students, and professional students --- who are exploring the principles, practices, and institutions necessary to a free society through their academic work.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All nationalities
  • Must be enrolled as full-time students
  • Undergraduates who will be juniors or seniors during the academic year of funding, or
  • Graduate students at any stage before completion of a Ph.D.

DEADLINE
Postmark:  December 31, 2006 for Academic Year 2007-08.  Application will be available in summer, 2006:  it is an on-line application.  Final round selection in March, 2007; announcements in late April, 2007.
