SOROS FELLOWSHIPS FOR NEW AMERICANS


PURPOSE
Established by the Paul and Daisy Soros Charitable Trust in 1997 to support the graduate-study needs of immigrants and their children for study at any accredited graduate program in the US.

AWARD
$20,000 maintenance; plus half tuition at graduate school Fellow attends [up to $16,000].  Fellow may not work during the period of the fellowship without the permission of the director.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Seniors or recent graduates, or graduate students not past their second year of grad school; not more than 30 years of age on November 1, 2007
     
  • New Americans:
    1. resident alien (Green Card holder), or
    2. naturalized US citizen, or
    3. child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens
  • Applying to, or already in, graduate school

    APPLICATION PROCESS
    Applicants must prepare a 1500-word essay and submit a résumé, two reference letters, transcripts, complete formal application, and obtain college endorsement well in advance of the application deadline.  Applicants must have taken the graduate entrance exam pertinent to their field (e.g., GRE, LSAT, MCAT, GMAT) and submitted scores to the Soros Fellowship Program by the first week in December, 2007.
