MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIPS
PURPOSE
Awarded by the British government as a means of expressing appreciation of the aid given to the British by the United States under the Marshall Plan. Scholars, the potential leaders, opinion-formers, and decision-makers in the US, gain an understanding and appreciation of British values and way of life. AWARD
Tuition, fees, residence and related costs and transportation to and from Britain are paid in four installments during the academic year (approximately $20,000).

Universities in the United Kingdom for 2 academic years with possible extension for a third.
ELIGIBILITY
U.S. citizen under 26 years of age, with a degree from a U.S. college at the time the scholarship begins. Recipient is required to take a degree at a British university. Preference is given to candidates who combine high academic ability with a capacity to play an active part in the British university which they attend. They are also expected to spend some of their vacation time in the United Kingdom. Applicants may apply in the region in which they live or work, or have attended college for at least 2 years. Minimum qualification for application is an A- (or 3.67 on a 4.00 scale) grade average.

On-campus deadline noon September 7, 2009 --- submit the following to the Fellowships office (Adirondack House 202):

--Banner Degree Progress Report
--Marshall application
--Personal statement, 1000 words or less, describing
academic and outside interests
--Short statement, 500 words or less, giving reasons both
for wishing to undertake the course of study proposed
and for preferring the British university noted
Campus selection interviews: September 11, 2009.
For nominees, Marshall receipt (on-line) deadline October 1,
2009. Four letters of recommendation are included in this
stage of the application.
Official transcript receipt deadline (by US Mail): October 1,
2009.

Additional Marshall Scholarships in partnership with various British institutions, as well at the NIH and US Environmental Protection Agency: for doctoral study or, in the NIH case, supporting research specifically in bioscience, medicine, and related disciplines; in the USEPA case, for graduate degrees in physical, life, or systematic sciences, engineering, economics, social/behavioral sciences, urban/regional planning, communication science.
