WATSON FELLOWSHIPS

PURPOSE
The Watson Fellowship Program avails funds for college seniors of unusual promise to engage in focused independent study and travel abroad following their graduation. The fellowship provides an opportunity for Fellows to test their aspirations and abilities, to view their lives in greater perspective, and to develop a more informed sense of international concerns.
AWARD
$25,000 to cover one year of travel and related project expenses. The fellowship year must begin no later than August 1, 2010. The award may not be deferred. In addition, an amount equal to twelve months' payment of outstanding federally guaranteed and institutional student loans will supplement the stipend.
SUBJECTS
None specified. Topics must be of deep and long-standing personal interest to candidates. Travel to places previously visited for extended periods is not permitted.
NUMBER OFFERED
Forty per year; Middlebury may nominate four candidates.
ELIGIBILITY
Seniors of all nationalities with solid academic records and extracurricular activities that evidence initiative and commitment to a particular area of interest. Applicants must submit a clear proposal of study which is creative, feasible, and personally or professionally significant.
DEADLINES

- Awards will be announced in mid-March, 2010.
