The Tax Office provides guidance to the College community on how payments to employees, students, lecturers, performers and other vendors should be taxed, reported and documented.

The following information can be found on this website:

  1. Institutional tax questions: College tax exempt status, sales tax, meals and alcohol tax;
  2. Payments to U.S. citizens/ green card holders: documentation needed, treatment of different kinds of payments to employees, degree and non-degree students, lecturers/performers, and other payments and how the college treats the payment tax wise and whether it has to be reported by the individual, explanation of FICA student exemption, and explanations of the tax forms the individuals receive, i.e., W-2, 1098T and 1099MISC);
  3. Payments to Foreign Nationals: visa categoriesdocumentation needed,  treatment of different kinds of payments to employees, students, lecturers/performers, and other payments and how the college treats the payment tax wise and whether it has to be reported by the individual, explanation of FICA student exemption, and explanations of the tax forms the individuals receive, i.e., 1042S, W-2, resident versus non-resident aliens for tax purposes, ITIN;
  4. Information on Going Abroad: visa thoughts, U.S. taxes, Abroad taxes);
  5. Filing Your Tax Return: information on a refund, how to file for an extension, how to file your federal tax return as a non-resident alien incl. Form 8843 or as a U.S. citizen/ Green card holder even if you still receive treaty benefits, how to file your state tax return(s), how to file a previous year federal or state return if you did not file it before, how to file an amended tax return, how to get a refund of Social Security and Medicare Taxes if employer withheld them in error, if you are a Canadian
  6. Other Information: Tax treaties for employment, scholarship, teacher/ researcher income, most IRS forms, and IRS publications, how to contact the IRS and State Departments of Taxes, or local tax professionals.
