Emergency -- call 911
Department of Public Safety Non-Emergencies -
-- call 5911
A Reminder:
If you inadvertently reach the emergency dispatcher
DO NOT HANG UP.
911 calls connect to the Vermont State Police 911 dispatch center, which may order a police officer to the site. The Department of Public Safety, who is notified of the call, will send an officer to the location as well.
Take care in dialing. Dial 911 only in an emergency. If you mistakenly dial 911 please do not hang up since calls are captured and identified. The appropriate action is to stay on the line and tell the dispatcher that you have misdialed and do not have an emergency.
In the event of a hang-up emergency call service personnel will attempt to call you back. If there is no answer the Department of Public Safety will send an officer to the location of that phone. Specific locations of calls placed from any on-campus phone may be determined by the College-maintained 911 database. Included in the location information sent to the 911 dispatcher is the telephone number of the calling party, the building and room from which the call was placed, and the street address of the building where the extension is located. The availability of this information is extremely helpful to responding emergency personnel (police, fire, and medical services) particularly in cases where the calling party is unable to provide such information for any reason.
For non-emergency calls you should dial Department of Public Safety at extension 5911.
A Reminder:
If you inadvertently dial 911 and reach the emergency dispatcher
DO NOT HANG UP!
