Call for Posters

For Emma Willard House:
In January of 2010, the Emma Willard house will begin displaying 12 student posters that will be a campus tour stop. Any Middlebury student, who would like to have a poster showcasing their project considered, can email a non-editable PDF version to the Undergraduate Research Office at uro@middlebury.edu by November 19, 2009

For Posters on the Hill:
CUR national competition for undergraduate research posters in sciences (see flyer). Approximately 60 posters will be selected for this event, which will be held in Washington, DC on April 13, 2010. Middlebury will support fees and travel costs for any student (and his/her mentor) whose poster is selected. The deadline for submitting poster abstracts is Friday, November 10th.

Summer Research Highlights

Chester Harvey '09 worked with Professor Anne Knowles on "Geography of the Holocaust".  See news article with video

Aiko Weverka '09 (below) presented her poster "Shifting disturbance regimes change the composition of an old-growth hemlock-pine-northern hardwoods forest in central Vermont" at the Ecological Society of America meeting.  

Kira Gordon '12 , has been conducting research with Dr. Andrew Binks and Dr. Edward Bilsky at the University of New England this summer. Kira is planning to present a poster entitled, Hypoxia- and Hypercapnia-induced Air Hunger as an Animal Model for Dyspnea, at their Summer Symposium.

Cameron Mercer '11 was an intern at the Marshall Space Flight Center with NASA mentor, Barbara Cohen. His project was working with Pancam reflectance spectra from the Opportunity rover.

Alexa Warburton '09 studied the learning abilities of the pygmy octupus with professor Tom Root here at Middlebury. See video story.
