Middlebury administers a wide variety of internal research funding opportunities, and provides liaison advising for external research opportunities. Many of these options are titled fellowships, scholarships, grants, internships, credit-bearing research, non-credit-bearing research, and other categories.

We have provided below an overview of how these differing categories are traditionally defined. HOWEVER: please be aware that many programs use this terminology loosely (i.e., a program that meets the traditional definition of a fellowship may be called a scholarship). It is therefore always in your best interest to read the description of the program carefully rather than relying on its title.
