Mission Statement

The Undergraduate Research Office (URO) at Middlebury College supports and promotes undergraduate opportunities in inquiry-, creativity-, and experience-based scholarship through research experiences with Middlebury College faculty and other outside professionals. Its mission is to integrate undergraduates more fully into the research life of the College. This office promotes undergraduate research as a powerful teaching pedagogy.

Services

This office is overseen by Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research Patricia Manley and Associate Dean of the College Karen Guttentag, with administrative support from Assistant to the Associate Dean of the College Penny Deacon.

The URO promotes existing opportunities for undergraduate research on and off campus, and works with students and colleagues to identify and create new research opportunities. We work with members of the College community to celebrate the undergraduate research accomplishments of Middlebury students in a Spring Student Symposium. In addition, this office oversees a searchable database of funding opportunities for academic and experiential research across the curriculum.  This database is available to all Middlebury students, faculty and alumni.
