Brief Description

Principal objectives of this scholarship include: to equip Americans with understanding of less commonly taught languages and cultures; 2. to build a critical base of future leaders in the marketplace and in government service, who have cultivated international relationships and worked and studied alongside foreign experts; to increase the number of faculty who can educate US citizens toward achieving these goals.  Supports study abroad in non-European/Oceanic regions with awards from $4,000 to $20,000, according to need, up to full scholarship and transportation, and health insurance. There is a post-degree service requirement in government or education:  all recipients of NSEP awards are required to seek employment with a federal agency or office involved in national security affairs.
