The Alumni Admissions Program (AAP) was established in 1974 to use the energy and enthusiasm of Middlebury alumni in the continuing effort to attract outstanding students to the College.
There are now over 4,200 alumni volunteers throughout the world who support this program. Alums are assigned to individual committees (ranging in size up to over 200 volunteers) defined by either the volunteers' country, state or community of residence. Each of the 158 committees is headed by an AAP chairperson who assigns applicants to Middlebury graduates from the committee area. The purpose of these committees is to assist the Admissions staff in contacting applicants, providing information about the College, conducting informative interviews that are used in the decision-making process and encouraging admitted students to attend Middlebury.
Volunteers conduct interviews with prospective students to provide information about Middlebury and to describe the applicant's personal qualifications, i.e., the personal contributions they will be able to make to the Middlebury community. Following the interview, an interview report is submitted on each student contacted. Alumni interviews are typically scheduled during the month of November for Early Decision I students and January for Early Decision II, and January through the first week in February for Regular Decision students. In addition to offering interviews to over 6,700 applicants in 2015-16, alumni volunteers represent Middlebury at local college fairs in the fall and spring.
Middlebury graduates may join the AAP by submitting the AAP Registration form. Once registered, AAP members will be provided with a user name and password to access a restricted site that provides additional information.
