Why did I want to be a Senior Fellow?
I have worked at admissions since my third week on Middlebury’s campus and I thought this program would be a great opportunity to see more of the behind the scenes work of admissions officers.
What was my college search like?
I started looking in my sophomore year of high school. By junior year, my parents were attending school visits with me. Senior year I applied to 14 schools (my poor parents and those applications fees!) and in the spring of my senior year, I visited Middlebury with my mom and handed in my deposit after Preview Days.
Why Middlebury?
1. The challenging-but-rewarding academics, which guarantee that I am always being pushed out of my comfort zone.
2. The location: the ability to live in the moment, when you choose and enjoy all your educational experience has to offer academically, socially and geographically.
3. The faculty, the students, the staff and the townspeople.
What is life at Middlebury like?
Choosing a major
I entered Middlebury believing that I would be a History and English double major and no one was going to tell me differently. Upon attending first year registration, I was lured to the psychology table and the head of the department told me to sign up for Introduction to Psychology. I decided that a major in psychology would provide with a background in understand how others think. Presently, I am one class away from finishing my psychology major and I am glad he convinced me to sign up.
The biggest challenge in transitioning to college
My biggest challenge in transitioning to college was learning how to say "no" and realizing that a quiet Friday night can be a good thing!
Fondest memory of Middlebury
I remember, sophomore year, my block-mates and I were stressing about upcoming finals. It was pouring rain outside and we felt there was nothing to do to reduce our stress levels. Just when I thought all hope was lost, my friend told me to take off my shoes and follow her. I thought she was nuts, but I was too tired to fight. We ran up Battell Beach and began to mudslide down it. It was liberating. After a shower, we returned to the library refreshed, rejuvenated and relaxed.
Favorite class or professor
Laura Basili for Children Living With Illness. Professor Basili’s wisdom and patience guided me to pursue a post-grad career in pediatric health services.
What I do in my spare time
I read, I dance, I laugh, I learn and I always try to remember although life is short, there is always time to do what you love.
What I did this past summer
I worked at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), which is an intermediary non-profit organization that works to build sustainable communities from a comprehensive approach including affordable housing, school/childcare services and health/social services.
