Manuel was born in Costa Rica and lived in Colombia and the Dominican Republic before coming to the United States to pursue his higher education; he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Swarthmore College and a master’s degree in international education policy from Harvard University. Manuel began his admissions career following his graduation from Swarthmore. He then served an independent school principal in Texas and in Costa Rica before starting work at Middlebury College in 2005. For a time, Manuel represented Middlebury as a regional admissions officer based in Austin Texas; returning to Vermont in 2009, Manuel is now director of admissions at Middlebury, responsible for logistics and operations of the office. He also assists with international travel and admissions. Manuel and his wife Brook Escobedo, who is both a graduate of Middlebury’s language schools and an admissions officer there, have a young son, Julian; they enjoy long walks through town with him and will someday introduce him to snowboarding at the Snow Bowl.
