Professor Timothy Billings, is coming to town for a Tri-lingual Poetry Reading

Professor Timothy Billings of the Department of English and American Literatures at Middlebury College will be giving a tri-lingual poetry reading from his translation and critical edition of the French and Chinese poetry of Stèles (1914) by Victor Segalen, which has just been released by Wesleyan University Press.

As some recent NYC alumni already know, Professor Billings is not just a Shakespeare expert, but also a poet and a scholar of French and Chinese literature. This event will be the official book launch for this landmark edition of Segalen's work in the prestigious Wesleyan poetry series. Professor Billings has been working on this book for five years, which is intended to introduce and explain to American audiences this famous French poet who lived in China at the beginning of the last century.

Drop by the Bowery Poetry Club on Saturday to say hello to Professor Billings and to hear a sampling of these fascinating French and Chinese poems! If you’re not a former student of his, please introduce yourself!
