OKTOBERFEST 2004:
Volunteer event & after-party with Otter Creek!

On Saturday, October 23, members of the San Francisco Middlebury alumni chapter volunteered clearing brush at Park Presidio—a city greenbelt in the Richmond District of San Francisco—in the morning, and repaired to a nearby bar for an afternoon sampling a fondly recalled taste of Vermont: products from Middlebury's own Otter Creek Brewing.
The photo above was taken at Park Presidio with District Supervisor Jake McGoldrick (who was chatting us up about Middlebury's famous language programs). A total of about 20 alums came out to one or both portions of the event. About 10 volunteers worked for three hours in the morning—in the rain, no less—cutting and removing several tons of old branches and brush (see photos below).
The volunteer event was part of the city-sponsored Community Clean Team program, in which volunteers clean streets, parks, and schools from a different neighborhood of the city each month.
