April 2008
Dear Classmate:
Our 35th reunion date, June 6–8, is fast approaching; we hope you plan to be there! Reunion 2008—35 years after our graduation—promises to be a memorable one. Return your registration materials, with a check, to Middlebury today or register online. While you are on line, complete the class survey, and join the Social Network where you can add pictures, leave messages for friends, and get a feel as to what classmates are up to. Vermont in late spring (post-mud season), as you recall, is magnificent—we’re talking the total green spectrum here. The planned activities guarantee a great weekend for us to share with friends, old and new.
Friday, June 6: Reunion registration opens at 3 p.m. in the Grand Salon of Le Chateau, which will also be our reunion headquarters and dorm space. It’s okay; we have special permission to speak English there. You’ll be able to park in the Wright Theatre lot (from downtown Middlebury, bear right onto Route 125W, turn right onto Shannon Street, and left into the parking lot).
That evening, we will head off campus to Roland’s Place Restaurant in New Haven. Roland’s serves traditional and provencal cuisine of France using the freshest local ingredients. There will be shuttle buses to bring us from campus departing at 5:30. Please try to make it for dinner.
Saturday, June 7: The morning starts off with a 5K fun run, a golf scramble, and tours of the campus. Our class is also organizing a special forum on mid-career changes (see enclosed flyer). The college Career Services Office (CSO) will be there to provide us with an outline of resources (on-campus and online) available to alumni who are contemplating these kinds of career shifts. We still have room for 2-3 more people to be on the panel ! If you have made a midlife career change, or ‘retired’ to a new career… will you consider telling your story as part of this informal panel? Please contact Kevin Kenlan or Mary Farley soon!
Saturday afternoon, there are several options. Peter Hamlin is offering to lead a walk on the “Trail Around Middlebury.” The Scott Center for Spiritual Life will also host an open house. In addition, there will be opportunities to learn about the College through faculty and alumni lectures. We will then gather for our class photo, reunion parade, and Alumni Convocation. We’ll share a sumptuous dinner with all reunion classes, behind Mahaney Center for the Arts. The evening continues with concerts in the Center for the Arts and Pepin Gymnasium. Sunday, June 8: Again this year, Sunday chapel will include an alumni choir, so do plan to sing if you wish. After chapel we can have brunch in one of the new dining halls or return to Proctor (you DO remember Proctor folks, don’t you?). These special opportunities to reconnect come only every five years. For many of us, it has been much longer than that. Join your friends at Midd for our 35th reunion, June 6-8. We promise a fun time.
If you have any questions or need help with arrangements, contact Heather Cahill in the alumni office at 802.443.5192 or hcahill@middlebury.edu. Also, feel free to contact us to discuss current events, complain about medical problems, or for a free Vermont weather update!
Can’t wait to see you all!
David and Nancy Piskor Twichell
P.S. If you haven’t made your reunion gift yet, you’ll be hearing from our classmates on the Reunion Gift Committee. We encourage you to put your best foot forward and give them your support—our class goal is 65% participation. Make a gift online. Thanks!
